A Real Bright Spark!

Swindon College student Simon Hitchcox wins prestigious award

A previous electrical apprentice who studied at Swindon College has won a prestigious national award for the standard of his work.

Simon Hitchcox waited until he was in his 30s to do the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation at Swindon College and now he has won the National ECA Edmundson Electrical Award for his efforts.

Simon, who is 36, said “I felt honoured to win an award for my work. Swindon College taught me so much and I can’t recommend it enough to people. All of my tutors were helpful, patient and knowledgeable.”

“Coming to college was a challenge for me as I was out of education for a long time and a lot was happening at the time I started there, I was having my first child. But Swindon College taught me more than any other course I have ever been on.”

Swindon College has been sent a copy of the impressive framed certificate, which is now displayed in the main corridor near reception called the avenue.

Kevin Brown, who is the Course Tutor for Electrical Apprentices, said “We are very proud of Simon’s achievement. It’s great that he has got a national award! He was a very committed, conscientious student who wanted everything to be just right. He stood out as he did so much work and he went the extra mile.”

“We are so pleased that he won, it makes us feel like our team did a good job. It’s a good feeling for all of us.”
